valuing employee contributions.OVERVIEWThe Electrical Engineer
works to maintain and improve the safety, reliability and overall
economics of the electrical distribution system. This is done
through the development of various engineering studies, material
specifications, construction standards and technical standards.This
position has responsibility for design, development, implementation
and analysis of changes to the distribution system, and provides
leadership and direction for Dakota Electric Association (DEA) in
assigned technical areas.This position makes decisions that have a
direct impact on the safety of the employees and the general
public, the reliability of the electrical system and on the
material and scope of the $18,000,000 annual construction
budget.JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides project management for engineering studies, system
construction projects, and member owned generation interconnection
or other projects as necessary. This includes overall
responsibility for the management of the budget for these
projects.
- Identifies and recommends changes to system equipment, control
and operation of the distribution system as necessary to ensure
safe and reliable electrical service. Periodically reviews the
distribution system to ensure that the field equipment is not
overloaded or overstressed, and protection systems are coordinated
properly.
- Exploration, investigation, and direction of new technologies,
and management of the advanced distribution management
systems.
- Manages the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
system and reviews any SCADA screens, develops and issues point
lists for substations, relays, and other equipment. Recommends and
implements standards and templates for new equipment or updates to
existing equipment.
- Creates new and maintains the set of Dakota Electric
construction standards to ensure compliance with national and local
standards, rules and regulations; crew and public safety and the
reliability and economics of the distribution system.
- Creates new or maintain the specifications used to purchase
construction materials for use on the Dakota Electric distribution
system and load management installations. Provide technical review
of quotes and assists with the review of material bids. Serves as a
member of material commodity teams as assigned. Creates methods to
keep abreast of abnormal material failures. Provides or directs
analysis to determine cause of failure and recommends, if necessary
a change in materials.
- Perform other related work as apparent or assigned.REQUIRED
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of science in electrical engineering (BSEE) degree or
bachelor of electrical engineering (BEE) degree.DESIRED
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2 years' work experience as an Electrical Engineer.
- Completion of the Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) exam.WORKING
CONDITIONSNormal department office conditions and working hours
